France will host Serbia in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas semifinals on 15-17 September. This is just the second meeting between the two nations – Serbia defeated France to win the Davis Cup title for the first time in the 2010 Final in Belgrade - though the teams met on eight previous occasions with Serbia playing under the flag of Yugoslavia. Serbia won its first quarterfinal since 2012 after comfortably beating Spain in Belgrade in April. Novak Djokovic and Viktor Troicki cruised to straight sets wins before playing captain Nenad Zimonjic and Troicki saw off Pablo Carreno Busta and Marc Lopez in a five set doubles. It was a similar story for France, who saw off 2015 champions Great Britain by the end of day two in Rouen. Belgium will host Australia in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas semifinals on 15-17 September in the fifth meeting between the two nations. Their head-to-head stands at 2-2, but Belgium has won their last two encounters in a decisive fifth rubber – in both the World Group first round in Liege in 2007 and in the 2010 World Group play-offs in Cairns. Belgium progressed to the semifinals for just the second time since 1999 after defeating Italy 3-2 in the quarterfinals in Charleroi. Steve Darcis defeated Paolo Lorenzi to set the tone for Belgium and David Goffin won both of his rubbers to seal the tie for the hosts, after Simone Bolelli and Andreas Seppi had prolonged the tie to a final day by squeezing past Ruben Bemelmans and Joris De Loore in a five-set doubles. On February 9, 1900, the strong silver trophy referred to today as the Davis Cup is first set up for rivalry when American collegian Dwight Filley Davis challenges British tennis players to run over the Atlantic and go up against his Harvard group. Davis, conceived in St. Louis, Missouri, won the intercollegiate tennis singles title in 1899. In the late spring of that year, he and his Harvard partners gone toward the West Coast to play against some of California's best players. Inspired by the eagerness with which onlookers welcomed the national rivalry, Davis chosen to propose a global tennis occasion.
