France will host Serbia in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas semifinals on 15-17 September. This is just the second meeting between the two nations – Serbia defeated France to win the Davis Cup title for the first time in the 2010 Final in Belgrade - though the teams met on eight previous occasions with Serbia playing under the flag of Yugoslavia. Serbia won its first quarterfinal since 2012 after comfortably beating Spain in Belgrade in April. Belgium will host Australia in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas semifinals on 15-17 September in the fifth meeting between the two nations. Their head-to-head stands at 2-2, but Belgium has won their last two encounters in a decisive fifth rubber – in both the World Group first round in Liege in 2007 and in the 2010 World Group play-offs in Cairns. Belgium progressed to the semifinals for just the second time since 1999 after defeating Italy 3-2 in the quarterfinals in Charleroi. On February 9, 1900, the strong silver trophy referred to today as the Davis Cup is first set up for rivalry when American collegian Dwight Filley Davis challenges British tennis players to run over the Atlantic and go up against his Harvard group. Davis, conceived in St. Louis, Missouri, won the intercollegiate tennis singles title in 1899.
